Axel Merk is the founder and president of the company, he makes all of Merk Investments’ investment decisions.
Mr. Merk has been actively managing his own wealth in the stock market since 1983. In 1994, he founded Merk Investments AG in Luzern, Switzerland, to manage and administer investment funds following his own investment philosophy. Nowadays, all investment advisory activities are directed from Merk Investments LLC, an SEC registered investment advisor. A substantial part of Mr Merk's assets are invested according to the same strategies clients are advised on.
Mr. Merk holds a BA in Economics and MSc in Computer Science from Brown University, Rhode Island. His post graduate research has focused on the use of computer aided models in financial decision making, and as a published author in intelligent adaptive systems1, he periodically speaks at conferences and maintains close ties to universities.
Having researched a broad spectrum of financial and technical analysis, he considers himself a “good old fundamentalist”; selecting long term investment targets based on the value of their fundamentals, while keeping the short term technical indicators in the rear view mirror.
As a private pilot and a father of four, Mr. Merk is used to continuous training, planning ahead, focusing on safety, keeping his eye on the indicators and dealing with the unexpected.

Axel Merk at the 2004 Big Sur International Marathon. The course is situated between Big Sur and Monterey, California, along rolling hills, through redwoods, with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. It's one of the world's most beautiful and challenging courses. In 2005, Mr Merk completed a Triathlon (Olympic Distance) in Munich, Germany; he also completed the Silicon Valley Marathon in San Jose.
